Don’t you just love the series of Southwest Airlines commercials? From the embarrassing encounter to a full-blown, crawl under a rock and die episode, we all yearn for a place to get away from it all.
Dream with me for a moment. If you could pick any place in the world to escape from the scrutiny of careless whispers or the devastation of wrong choices, where would you go? You might pick paradise but the luster of an tropical island or majestic mountain soon fades. The perfect getaway alludes our ideal because we can’t get away from ourselves.
God joins us when we invite Him in all our not-so perfect moments. Whether we feel our best getaway is holed up somewhere under a rock, He is an ever-present help in trouble as our refuge and strength (Psalm 46:1).
Embarrassed by poor judgement? Mortified over a life-altering direction? Condemned over rash decisions? Southwest Airlines might reach certain destinations, but only God knows the perfect place to getaway: In His care.
Psalm 32:7 – You are my hiding place, you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.
